I am really liking Are.na. A big idea behind the rise of algorithms in social media is the idea that you are shown things based on who you have common interests with (e.g. you like A and B, and this other guy likes A, B, and C, so you'll probably like C).

What's different about Are.na is that every channel is curated by humans. Both the foray into new interests and the curation of those new interests is carried out by humans. It creates this warm friction that is very palpable, familiar, but sadly foreign in today's internet culture. It's a welcoming return to genuine exploration and discovery on the web.
