Recently, I've been inspired by the concept of junk journals, a craft assembled from found objects and minutiae from ones daily life. I was really drawn to the idea drawing attention to the seemingly unremarkable things that are all around us.

I wanted to make my own, and began collecting things from my walks to school, commutes to work, and other mundane activities. The objects I collected were a bit more discardable though. If any piece of trash caught my eye, I would put it in my baggie for later. Over time, I began assembling my own "trash journal."

Today, for the first time, I emptied out my baggie of trash, assembled the contents, and scanned it. Here is the result:

Today, with the genesis of the internet and online life as we know it, we seem to constantly wading through a stream of trash and slop. It seems that every day, our limit of how much "stuff" can exist is surpassed. I really enjoyed this activity because it forced me to slow down and appreciate the details of the things I so often overlook.

Here are some pictures from the assembly of the journal:

I'm excited to begin trash journal 2 today! Had a lot of fun with this.
